1940's "Jazz and Big Bands"
In the 1940's music was heavily influenced by the fact that the United States had entered World War Two. This was an emotional time for most Americans. As all able bodied men were shipped off to Europe to fight for our country, leaving most women to do the jobs that the men were forced to leave behind. Even through this tough time, singers and musicians tried their best to keep Americans in good spirits. Some musical acts even took themselves to play for troops to keep them entertained. Back in America many musical acts were writing songs to reflect the pain from World War II, while also trying to keep all of their minds off of the brutal war that was happening to the other side of the world.

1950's "The Birth of Rock n' Roll"
The music in the 1950's included many different genres including, rock n' roll, traditional pop, country and many more. Among the rock n' roll artists was the swoon-worthy Elvis Presley, otherwise known as "The King." Music in the 1950's was said to have influenced everything that we listen to on the radio today. Rock n' roll and R&B helped to popularize "black" music. Even though it was popularized many artists were still denied the right to become successful. As you can tell, racial tensions still affected music from the 50's.
